Sunday 11th October saw Rinn-Shannon And District Angling Club play host to the Pee McLoughlin Memorial Cup Trout Competition at Lough Rowan. This annual event drew the trout season to a close on Leitrim's premier brown trout venue.
This was an all methods competition with many participants opting to fish the fly as strong north westerly winds and overcast skies looked extremely favourable as the boats set out from the slipway at 11am. As every true fisherman knows, nothing is definite and despite recent excellent catch returns in October very few fish were caught on the day. As the competition drew to a close it was clearly evident that it would not take a substantial catch to take home the trophy for 2009. That honour went to Noel Moran of Drumsna, himself a previous winner of the competition in 2007 and regular visitor to the fishery.
